Preventive dental treatments are an important part of maintaining good oral health in children.
Here are some common preventive dental treatments for kids:

Dental cleanings: Regular dental cleanings are important for removing plaque and tartar buildup on the teeth, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. They also give us the opportunity to check for any developing dental problems and address them early on. Regular dental cleanings are an important part of maintaining good oral health for kids. The American Dental Association recommends that children have a dental cleaning and exam every six months. In addition to regular dental cleanings, it’s important for children to practice good oral hygiene at home. This includes brushing their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, and eating a healthy diet that is low in sugar.

Fluoride treatments: Fluoride is a mineral that helps to strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities. Fluoride treatments can be applied topically to the teeth during as a gel or varnish. When children are at risk of having cavities, an application of fluoride varnish at the dentist can make their teeth stronger. When parents visit us for their child’s first dental visit at age 1, and every six months after that, we can evaluate if your child is at risk of having cavities, or already having early signs of having cavities. In that case applying fluoride varnish is an easy, safe and very effective method to protect your baby’s teeth. When children already have the beginning of cavities, applying fluoride varnish every 3 months can prevent the cavities from growing larger, and can even reverse the process.

Dental sealants: Dental sealants are a thin, protective coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars at 6-7 years of age and premolars at 12-13 years of age) to help prevent cavities. They can even be applied to susceptible baby teeth. They are made of a clear or tooth-coloured material that bonds to the tooth surface and creates a barrier that protects the grooves and fissures of the teeth from food particles and bacteria that can cause decay. Dental sealants are most commonly used in children and teenagers, as their new permanent teeth are more susceptible to decay. However, adults can also benefit from sealants if they have deep grooves or fissures on their molars and premolars. They are usually applied The process of applying dental sealants is quick and painless. The dentist will clean and dry the teeth before applying an acidic solution to create a rough surface that the sealant can bond to. The sealant is then applied to the tooth surface and hardened with a special light. Sealants can last for several years with proper care, but may need to be reapplied over time. Regular dental check-ups are important to monitor the effectiveness of sealants and to ensure that they are still intact and providing adequate protection against decay. Overall, dental sealants are a safe and effective way to help prevent cavities in children’s teeth.

Oral hygiene education:
Good oral hygiene habits should begin early, ideally as soon as the first teeth appear. During the first dental visit of your child with us, we provide detailed ways to parents to help them in providing the age appropriate oral hygiene techniques and dental friendly diet for their kids. This can help them establish good oral hygiene habits that will last a lifetime. By making it fun and interactive, children are more likely to be engaged and interested in learning about dental health.

Mouthguards: Mouthguards can be custom-made by our team to protect a child’s teeth from injury during sports or other physical activities.

Early orthodontic evaluation: Early evaluation by an orthodontist can help identify potential issues with a child’s bite or tooth alignment, which can be corrected with braces or other orthodontic treatments.

These preventive dental treatments can help keep children’s teeth healthy and prevent the need for more extensive dental work in the future. It’s important for parents to schedule regular dental check-ups for their children and to work with us closely to determine which preventive treatments are appropriate for their child’s individual needs.
